Whatever people's feelings may be about the monarchy, British colonialism, royal family drama and the like, her passing marks the end of a long and storied era in human history. The vast majority of people alive today have never lived in a world without Queen Elizabeth. She wore the crown for a third of the entire history of the United States, which is mindblowing. Elizabeth was Britain's longest-reigning monarch and the second-longest reigning monarch in history ( after France's Louis XIV).

The historic nature of her passing can't be overstated. It's even rumoured that she was over the moon when the Duchess of Sussex gifted the Queen a singing hamster. After seven decades on the throne as Britain's monarch, Queen Elizabeth II passed away on September 8 at the age of 96. It's reported that she loves a good prank (even when she’s on the receiving end) and that she encourages her loved ones to give her joke gifts at Christmas. In fact, it seems the Queen loves a good laugh. The Queen in the public eye is epitome of poise in public, however it turns out that in private she’s said to have quite the sense of humour, which explains her humorous response to the tourists. It became clear the American tourists had no idea that they were conversing with the Queen herself. “No,” she responded, and then pointed at her protection officer, “But he has.” Our journalists cover all the news you need - from City Hall to your local streets, so you'll never miss a moment.ĭon't skip a beat and sign up to The 12 newsletter here.
